South Dakota State Women’s Basketball Dominates Early Season
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State’s senior forward Brooklyn Meyer has been a standout performer early in the 2025-26 season, earning the Summit League Women’s Basketball Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week award for the first time this year. Her exceptional performance over the weekend solidifies her as a key player for the Jackrabbits.
Meyer’s Pivotal Performance
In their opening games, Meyer demonstrated her prowess with two significant performances. In a challenging road game against Creighton, she scored 33 points and contributed five blocks, leading South Dakota State to a decisive victory by a score of 78-62.
Her performance was not just a one-off; it marked the beginning of a dominant week for Meyer as she continued her standout play in SDSU’s home opener against Rice. Despite only scoring five points in the first half, she rebounded strongly in the second, adding 17 points and contributing four more blocks to secure another win.
Repeating Success
Meyer’s performance was instrumental in securing her seventh career weekly award. Her averages of 27.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.5 blocks, and 3.0 assists per game during the Jackrabbits’ two-game winning streak showcase her versatility on both ends of the court.
The Iowa native’s impact is evident in more than just numbers; she led the Summit League in scoring and blocks for the week while ranking fourth in rebounds. Her all-around performance has not gone unnoticed, as fellow players Coryn Watts from Denver, Emani Bennett from Kansas City, Avery Koenen from North Dakota State, Avril Smith from Omaha, Jalei Oglesby from Oral Roberts, Angelina Robles from South Dakota, and Alyssa Sand from St. Thomas were also nominated for the award.
Season Outlook
South Dakota State is off to a strong start with Meyer leading the way. As they prepare for the remainder of the season, fans can expect continued dominance from the senior forward who has already made her mark in the Summit League. The Jackrabbits’ success this early in the season suggests that they may be contenders once again for league titles and accolades.
