John Tesh Reveals How His Wife Saved His Life After Rare Cancer Diagnosis (exclusive)

in New York when she was a model, like 52 years ago, and she kept in touch with them,” Tesh explained.

When Tesh reached his wits’ end and couldn’t find appropriate treatment for this rare form of prostate cancer, Connie contacted these individuals. They advised him to go to MD Anderson, where the facility was treating over 1,000 cases similar to his. “They had more experience,” Tesh stated.

At MD Anderson, Tesh underwent a successful radical prostatectomy, believing that the cancer might be behind him. However, in 2017, an MRI scan revealed that the cancer had spread to his pelvis’ lymph nodes. This setback led Connie to suggest another round of treatment at MD Anderson.

The Continued Battle

Currently, Tesh is closely monitoring the disease progression with his doctors at MD Anderson. He recently spoke at a fundraiser for the organization and expressed gratitude for the care he received. “I shouldn’t even be alive now,” he told PEOPLE, acknowledging that he feels deeply grateful for the support and treatment provided by MD Anderson.

Resurgence of Music

Beyond his health journey, Tesh has found a new lease on life through music. His iconic song “Roundball Rock,” composed in 1990 for NBA on NBC, experienced a resurgence during the pandemic. Tesh re-recorded the song with a full orchestra and shared that fans preferred the original version from 1989.

“The wild inside baseball story the song is that when I heard it was coming back, I went and recorded another version of it with a full orchestra,” he said. “And the fans said, ‘No, no, no, no, no, we want the OG version.’ So the version you’re hearing now is the demo that I did in 1989.” Tesh sees parallels between his music career and his health journey, both rising from difficult circumstances.

Tesh’s story of resilience and the support he received from his wife highlights the importance of community and persistence in battling rare diseases. His current focus on music and MD Anderson’s philanthropic campaign, Only Possible Here, underscores his commitment to staying healthy and giving back.
