Nicole Curtis’s Slip of the Tongue Defense
Nicole Curtis, former HGTV star, found herself in hot water after using a racial slur during filming. The controversy led to her show’s cancellation on March 11, 2026. In an interview with The Breakfast Club radio show, Curtis attempted to explain the incident as a mere slip of the tongue.
A Slur and Its Explanation
During a recording for her HGTV show Rehab Addict, Curtis was heard saying, “Oh, fart n*****.” In an interview with The Breakfast Club, she claimed that such phrases are part of her ‘fart’ terminology, which includes terms like ‘fart digger’ and ‘fart knocker.’ She explained, “Do you have boys? Boys talk about farts— all the time. OK, again, I can’t swear on my show – OK so yes, I’ve made up these crazy words.”
Radio Show Skepticism
The Breakfast Club’s DJ Envy and Charlamagne tha God were skeptical of Curtis’s explanation. Envy questioned the logic behind her phrase “fart n*****” on a Black radio show, while Charlamagne asked, ‘Fart digger sounds like you’re playing with a**holes all day—why? That’s another conversation – why would you be digging in random asses, digging for farts?’ Curtis defended her gibberish by saying, “I don’t have a rhyme or reason of the words that I make up—I say nonsense stuff all the time.”
HGTV’s Response
A HGTV spokesperson stated their commitment to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion. They explained, “We understand that language like this is hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees, and it does not align with the values of HGTV. Accordingly, we have removed the series from all HGTV platforms.”
Curtis has shifted her focus to community involvement, saying she would encourage people around her to avoid using such inflammatory phrases.
