The Chicago Memorial Day Forecast: A Mix of Rain and Sunshine

You might think this is new, but… it’s not. The NBC 5 Storm Team has been predicting a blend of showers and sunshine for the Chicago Memorial Day weekend since last fall.

According to their latest models, temperatures will continue their upward climb throughout the weekend. Friday sees readings in the upper-60s to low-70s, while Saturday warms up to the low-to-mid 70s.

Sunday’s high could even hit the upper-70s before soaring into the 80s by Monday.

Yet, just as the weather forecasters say, there will be a chance of showers and storms early in the weekend. The NBC 5 Storm Team warns that these scattered rains may stick around until very early Sunday morning, but rest assured, drier and sunnier conditions are expected on the back half of Memorial Day.

And while you might think the rain is all bad news for your Memorial Day celebrations, it’s not. At least, that’s the plan.

The beach hazard statement due to waves up to 6 feet tall and dangerous rip currents will put a damper on early beach activities. However, if you can wait until later in the weekend, expect some of the best weather of the summer so far.

Speaking of summer, be prepared for continued warm temperatures throughout the upcoming week as Chicago moves toward the start of meteorological summer on June 1. So, whether you’re planning a backyard party or a trip to the beach, make sure your plans are flexible and ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at us.
