Vin Diesel Wheels 92-Year-Old Icon Michael Caine at Red Sea Film Festival

The Red Sea International Film Festival, held in Jeddah from December 4 to 13, 2025, celebrated the illustrious career of veteran actor Michael Caine, who received an honorary award for his seven-decade-long journey in the film industry. The event kicked off with the Middle East premiere of Giant, a biopic of British-Yemeni boxing champion “Prince” Naseem Hamed, starring Amir El-Masry and Pierce Brosnan.

The star-studded lineup included such luminaries as Dakota Johnson, Uma Thurman, Ana de Armas, Queen Latifah, Nina Dobrev, Kirsten Dunst, Jessica Alba, as well as jury president Sean Baker and jury members Riz Ahmed, Naomie Harris, Nadine Labaki, and Olga Kurylenko. Vin Diesel, who previously worked with Caine on the 2015 film The Last Witch Hunter, wheeled the legendary actor onto the red carpet in Jeddah, ensuring his safe passage to what would become a memorable moment for both the festival and cinephiles worldwide.

Caine’s Reflective Speech

During the opening ceremony, Caine, who was accompanied by his three grandchildren, took the stage. His speech reflected on his career and family life, beginning with, “Thank you for the welcome. My name is Michael Caine,” to massive applause from the audience.

He further elaborated, saying, “It’s not my real name but it’s a realistic name. It’s the one that made all the money. I was born a cockney in London, which is very poor working class, and I grew up to be what I am which is, well, I am not multiple rich, but I’ve got enough money for an evening out, even an evening in.” Caine went on to mention his 52-year marriage and the importance of family in his life.

Honorees and Festival Highlights

The ceremony saw several other notable figures receive accolades. Sigourney Weaver, Juliette Binoche, Rachid Bouchareb, and Stanley Tong were among those honored for their contributions to cinema. Caine himself was proud of his two Academy Award wins for Best Supporting Actor in “Hannah and Her Sisters” (1986) and “The Cider House Rules” (1999), as well as his four Oscar nominations for Best Actor.

Caine concluded by expressing gratitude, saying, “And one of the luckiest things is tonight. I’m just so happy to be here.

I’ve seen it on television but never won anything here, so I’m happy. I want to thank you for the surprise because in show business, you don’t get many surprises; you get a couple of shocks and that’s about it.” This heartfelt appreciation underscored his enduring career and the recognition he continues to receive even at 92.

The Red Sea Film Festival’s celebration of these legendary figures not only highlighted the importance of veteran actors in the film industry but also showcased the diverse talents and stories that continue to captivate audiences across different cultures and continents. The festival, with its global lineup and rich program, stands as a testament to the enduring power of cinema.
