, and they found the bodies,” he told People. Maple described the scene as heartbreaking, adding, “I was so shocked, but for some reason, I wasn’t totally surprised.”
Background on Christina Chambers: A Renowned Journalist and Educator
Christina Chambers, a former WBRC 6 sports reporter, had made significant contributions to the local community before her untimely death. She joined the news station in 2015 and became a central figure on its “Sideline” program, providing live coverage of various sporting events from the field.
After leaving her full-time role at the station to pursue a teaching career in July 2021, Chambers continued to freelance for the station’s coverage of the 2025 football season. She later worked as a broadcast journalism teacher at Thompson High School and was honored as the 2024 Advisor of the Year by the Alabama Scholastic Press Association.
“Christina Chambers had a beautiful ability to naturally feel like a friend immediately,” said Gillian Brooks, a reporter at WBRC 6. “She was relentless with running, loving her son, and loving life.
I am glad I got a chance to hug and tell her I love her a week ago at the Super 7. I am so sorry for her family, the Chambers and Thompson Families, and her WBRC Family.”
Signs of Strain in the Relationship?
A neighbor who knew the couple reported that something wasn’t right between them after their child was born seven years ago. “I was so shocked, but for some reason, I wasn’t totally surprised,” Maple reportedly said.
The Hoover Police Department confirmed that Chambers and Rimes were found dead inside their home on Tuesday morning in what authorities believe to be a murder-suicide. The bodies of the couple were discovered by Rimes’ father after visiting the family’s home to check on them, as they had not shown up at a scheduled church event.
“The child answered the door,” Maple told People, citing investigators. “And then they went back , and they found the bodies.”
The exact circumstances leading to the couple’s deaths remain under investigation by local authorities. The community is mourning the loss of a beloved journalist and educator who had touched many lives in Alabama.
