NJ TRANSIT to Host Public Meeting on River LINE Reliability and Safety
State Senator Troy Singleton is set to host a public meeting with NJ TRANSIT President and CEO Kris Kolluri, focusing on the reliability, accountability, communication, and safety of the River LINE. The event, scheduled for Thursday, November 13 from 6PM to 8PM at the Palmyra Community Center in Palmyra, New Jersey, aims to address concerns raised by constituents over service disruptions and accidents.
Background on River LINE
The River LINE has faced operational challenges since at least 2023. Issues such as operator availability, supply chain and equipment problems, and ongoing cancellations and delays have plagued the rail system. In August 2024, a tragic incident involving a 15-year-old boy and a River LINE train further highlighted safety concerns in Palmyra. Another deadly collision occurred near Roebling in October 2024, drawing renewed attention to the need for improvements.
Transition from Alstom
In September 2025, NJ TRANSIT announced it would take over direct control of the River LINE from its independent contractor, Alstom. The decision was made as a response to “evolving investment needs” that had grown beyond Alstom’s current contract scope covering operations and maintenance. This transition is expected to enable NJ TRANSIT to implement a comprehensive improvement plan for the service.
Senator Singleton’s Role
“As NJ TRANSIT assumes full operation of the River LINE, we felt it was necessary to bring leadership back before the public,” stated Senator Troy Singleton in announcing the November 13 meeting. “A year ago, riders voiced real concerns about cancellations and delays, communication failures, and safety issues that have undermined confidence in the system. We’re hopeful that this new transition will mark a turning point in overall reliability, timeliness, and service.”
Members of the public are encouraged to RSVP for the meeting at this link. The event is part of Senator Singleton’s ongoing efforts to hold NJ TRANSIT accountable and ensure the River LINE meets high standards of efficiency, reliability, and safety.
