Winter’s Grip on New Hampshire
The weather in New Hampshire just got a little more interesting. Starting Friday afternoon and extending into the evening, several counties across the state will see a significant snowfall event. The National Weather Service has already issued winter storm warnings for Grafton, Carroll, Sullivan, Merrimack, Strafford, Cheshire, and Hillsborough counties. A winter weather advisory is also in place for Coos, Grafton, Carroll, Hillsborough, and Rockingham counties.
The Snow’s Journey
Snow will begin to move into southwestern New Hampshire around noon on Friday. By 4 p.m., most of the southern and central parts of the state will be seeing snow. The heaviest snow is expected from about 4 p.m. through midnight, potentially accumulating at a rate of up to an inch per hour. This timing coincides with the evening commute, making it particularly challenging for travelers.
Accumulation Projections
By Saturday morning, expect 4 to 8 inches of snow in the White Mountains and Upper Valley southward. Some areas might see even higher totals, but far northern New Hampshire is likely to receive lesser amounts. Travel Challenges
Difficult travel conditions are expected as the snowfall continues throughout the evening commute. Visibility will reduce significantly, and roads will become slick due to the accumulation. After midnight, light snow may continue intermittently through midmorning Saturday, but additional accumulation is not anticipated.
