Bill’s Bitter Bites: Maher Jabs Back at Trump
You might think this is new, but…
On Friday’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, the comedian took a potshot at former President Donald Trump. Following their Valentine’s Day dinner in 2025 (that’s right, 2025), Trump had gotten on his Truth Social rant, complaining that the dinner was “a total waste of time.” Maher didn’t take it lying down.
And he wasn’t shy about it. “I woke up Saturday morning to a blistering social media text from him,” Maher recounted. “He went on and on—Valentine’s Day, by the way. He was very mad at me because I didn’t get his joke about how China is gonna make Canada give up hockey… I didn’t. I think we’re gonna have to workshop that one for a while.”
But Trump wasn’t done there. “So, he went off on me and said, ‘The dinner we had was a waste of time!’—well, I didn’t think it was—and that I’m a jerk, and that I’m a lightweight, and all this sh*t,” Maher elaborated.
Trump’s Derangement Diagnosis
Maher wasn’t about to take the criticism lying down. “Because I never stopped criticizing him. I never said I would. I know how women feel now, a guy buys you dinner and expects you to ‘put out.’ I’m not that guy,” he quipped.
And then came the classic Maher comeback. “Of course, Trump accused me of having ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome.’” Maher isn’t backing down: “It’s so funny because I got so much shit from the left for reporting honestly that in person, he was very different, very nice, very gracious. And then he says, ‘No, you were scared.’ I’m like the Democrats with an election, I just can’t win.”
Workshop Jokes and Trump’s Demeaning Claims
Maher went on to say that he plans to address these claims at the end of his next show. “I’m going to disprove this diagnosis at the end of my next show,” he vowed.
“So, you see, it’s a bit of an uphill battle. But I’m not about to let him dictate how I should be or what I should think. I’ll just keep on doing what I do best: making people laugh and keeping them thinking.”
But the real question is, can Trump really say he got value from that dinner? “Not always,” Maher admitted with a smirk.
The Endgame
As we head into 2025, one thing’s for sure: Bill Maher and Donald Trump won’t be agreeing anytime soon. Whether it’s through jokes or serious policy discussions, their relationship remains as frosty as ever. And that’s exactly how Bill likes it.
