Nfc Notes: John Lynch, Trent Mcduffie, Kyle Shanahan, 49ers, Rams, Seahawks

Key Highlights

  • NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero confirms John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan will remain with the 49ers.
  • The 49ers are seen as a competitive team year after year through trades and free agency.
  • Rams make significant moves, acquiring CB Trent McDuffie and signing CB Jaylen Watson.
  • Seahawks’ Anthony Bradford to compete for the starting quarterback job with Beau Stephens.

The NFL landscape is ever-evolving, but some franchises find stability in their leadership. Take the San Francisco 49ers, for instance. Their General Manager, John Lynch, and Head Coach, Kyle Shanahan, have been staples of success since their arrival. During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero made it crystal clear that there’s no immediate shakeup in sight.

The 49ers’ Stability

“I don’t see a world where John Lynch ever gets fired by the 49ers. Same thing with Kyle Shanahan,” Pelissero said firmly. “They have stabilized that franchise … The 49ers are competitive year after year. They certainly, I think it’s fair to say, have supplemented a lot through trades and at times free agency because they’ve had some misses in the draft.”

While Lynch and Shanahan have their work cut out for them, the team has shown resilience over the years. Their ability to make shrewd deals in both the trade and free agent markets is evident, though it’s clear that some draft picks haven’t panned out as hoped.

The Rams’ Offensive Boosts

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Rams are making a splash with their offseason acquisitions. They signed CB Jaylen Watson and acquired CB Trent McDuffie in a trade, addressing key positions on defense. But don’t overlook the contributions of Grant Stuard, who moves from special teams to potentially impact the defense.

Rams HC Sean McVay reflected, “We were able to address some needs in free agency,” McVay said, via RamsWire. “We were able to sign Jaylen Watson and obviously trade for McDuffie. You add a long snapper, you add Grant Stuard, who’s a special teams stud – and he’ll find a way to probably be able to contribute defensively, too.”

The Seahawks’ QB Competition

In the Pacific Northwest, the Seattle Seahawks are gearing up for their season with a quarterback battle. According to Brady Henderson of ESPN, Anthony Bradford is entering the final year of his rookie contract and will compete against fifth-round G Beau Stephens for the starting job.

Bradford trained with private OL coach Duke Manyweather following the season and showed up to Seattle’s offseason program “in good shape.” Despite some initial doubts, Henderson writes that Bradford still looks like the favorite to win the job. With the pressure on both players, this competition could decide who starts for the Seahawks in 2026.

You might think this is new, but… it’s business as usual in the NFL.

Teams are always looking to improve, and sometimes that means finding a new face under center or bolstering their defensive lineup with savvy acquisitions. For now, Lynch and Shanahan have done enough to keep their jobs secure, while the Rams and Seahawks prepare for what promises to be another exciting season.
