New Hockey Drama Series Announced for Netflix
Nine-time Emmy nominee Michelle Monaghan has been cast in a new hockey drama series titled “South Dorothy,” which will be produced by Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and released on Netflix. The untitled project is based on the small working-class town of South Dorothy, Minnesota, where the high school hockey team has been producing out-of-state championships and NHL stars for decades. However, the story takes a tragic turn with the bus crash that claims several lives, including legendary Coach “Sully” Sullivan.
“I’ve carried South Dorothy and its people in my heart for as long as I can remember,” shared Nick Naveda, the creator of the project. “To finally bring that world to life with my Grizzly family at 21 Laps and Netflix is nothing short of a dream come true.” The series will see Harper Sullivan (Monaghan) stepping up to coach a new team of young men after Coach Sully’s death. Naveda, along with Bridget Bedard (Love Life, Ramy), Trey Edward Shults (Waves, It Comes at Night), and Shawn Levy (Stranger Things, The Perfect Couple), will executive produce the series.
Project Details
“This show has long been a 21 Laps favorite and one of the best pieces we have had the privilege of developing and supporting,” added Shawn Levy. “Nick and Bridget have built a world and ensemble of characters that are rooted in authenticity and a huge heart, which attracted such great talent, including our director, Trey Edward Shults, and lead Michelle Monaghan.” The series will consist of 8 episodes, with the first two directed by Trey Edward Shults.

The production is part of Netflix’s ongoing collaboration with 21 Laps, following their previous hits such as Stranger Things and All the Light We Cannot See.
