In an interview with EUPHORIA, singer-songwriter Lola Consuelos opens up about her musical journey, debut EP, and the therapeutic process behind her songwriting. Growing up in New York, Consuelos was surrounded by diverse cultures and sounds, which ultimately led her to pursue a career in music.
From Young Aspirations to Creative Expression
“I think I knew music was my calling because I was constantly singing,” Consuelos explains. “I would even sing sentences, which is probably really annoying.” Her love for Broadway and performing also played a significant role in her decision to pursue music.
Collaboration with JoJo
The budding singer-songwriter’s collaboration with JoJo was a simple yet transformative experience. Initially inspired by hearing him sing during visits to her boyfriend’s apartment, Consuelos invited JoJo to the studio to check out the vibe. “The day comes, they walk in, sit on the couch, and I continue to work on the beginning of what is now ‘Paranoia Silverlining.'”
Therapeutic Songwriting
“Writing my thoughts down, big or small, has helped me immensely,” Consuelos says. “For one, it gives your mind something else to do.” She shares that her writing process involves hour-long conversations with co-writers and drawing inspiration from daily journal entries. Consuelos highlights the therapeutic nature of this process, allowing her to address anxiety, self-doubt, and insecurities in her music.

“I’ve been waiting for everyone to hear these songs,” Consuelos shares. Her debut EP, “Sorry, It’s All About Me,” delves into themes of anxiety, self-doubt, and insecurities. The EP title itself is a place of sarcasm, coming from the artist’s journey of vulnerability and therapeutic songwriting. “I think one of the scariest feelings in the world is feeling alone, unseen, and unheard,” she adds.
Inspiration and Future Plans
Consuelos names Amy Winehouse as a significant musical influence, noting her raspy voice and songwriting style. She also cites Lily Allen as another favorite artist. When asked about future plans, Consuelos expresses excitement about new music coming in 2026, including the possibility of a full-length record.
