Dame Jayne Torvill and Sir Christopher Dean, the Olympic ice skating champions from the 1984 Winter Games, were knighted and made a damehood respectively. “The timing seems perfect,” Dame Jayne said. “We had such a great time; it’s just finished everything. It was like the cherry on top of our career.”

Rotherham comedian Paul Elliott, part of the Chuckle Brothers duo famous for their chaotic antics on TV, was given a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his charitable work with Marie Curie. His brother’s passing underlined the importance of the hospice care provided by the charity.
“The nurses looked after him with incredible care and kindness,” Elliott said, reflecting on his late brother Barry’s legacy.
