New Temples Reflect Expansion Efforts

As part of the ongoing expansion efforts of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, three new temple locations have been officially announced, marking significant milestones for members in Florida and Idaho. These developments underscore the church’s commitment to providing spiritual resources and sacred spaces closer to its growing membership base.

Jacksonville Florida Temple Groundbreaking

The Jacksonville Florida Temple is set to break ground on January 24, 2026, as part of a broader initiative to build more temples in the state. The site for this temple will be located at 3323 Loretto Road, Jacksonville, Florida. With nearly 180,000 Latter-day Saints in around 280 congregations, Florida stands out as one of the states with a significant presence of church members.

President Russell M. Nelson’s announcement on October 2023 highlighted the importance of temples for the spiritual lives of Church members, stating that “The ordinances and covenants of the temple are of eternal significance.”

Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temple

Adding to the expansion efforts in the Pacific Northwest, The Church has also announced the location of the Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temple. This new temple will be built on a 10.91-acre site at the corner of Hanley Avenue and Coeur Terre Boulevard, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 29,630 square feet, along with a meetinghouse and an accompanying ancillary building. With over 480,000 Latter-day Saints in nearly 1,300 congregations across the state, this new temple will provide essential spiritual services to the local community.

Calabar Nigeria Temple

The Calabar Nigeria Temple has also been announced for construction on a 7-acre site at Atekong Drive, Calabar, Cross River State. This temple is part of the church’s global expansion efforts in Africa, where over 250,000 members call Nigeria home. The temple will include a single-story structure of 26,000 square feet along with patron housing, arrival facilities, and a meetinghouse.

Nigeria currently has one operating temple in Aba, while two additional temples are under construction in Lagos and Benin City.

Temple construction reflects the Church’s commitment to providing sacred spaces for its members worldwide. These new locations will not only enhance spiritual experiences but also serve as focal points for community outreach and service. As these projects move forward, they represent significant steps toward fulfilling the church’s mission of making temple blessings available to more people.
