No. 10 Florida State baseball (40-19) saw their season come to an abrupt end at Dick Howser Stadium, falling to St. John’s (37-19) by the narrow margin of 5-4 in the Tallahassee Regional.
The Key Moments
FSU led 2-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. Cal Fisher provided an early spark with his second homer of the regional, but it wasn’t enough to keep FSU’s season alive.
In the decisive fifth inning, Brody DeLamielleure delivered a two-out RBI hit for Florida State, setting up the stage for the drama that followed. John Abraham, who made his third start, managed to escape a jam with two walks and a single, but he loaded the bases with two outs.
Then came the moment you might think is new, but it’s not: Adam Agresti hit his second homer of the regional off FSU’s pitching.
His 19th homer of the season flew over the center field wall for a go-ahead grand slam, coming on Abraham’s 41st pitch.
St. John’s starter Evan Hoeckele posted a final line of 5 IP, 6 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 2 R, & 84 pitches. An E3 and back-to-back wild pitches extended the Red Storm’s lead to 5-2 through six innings.
The Seminoles’ Fight Back
FSU put two runners on base with no outs in the seventh inning. A flyout and a groundout stranded them, but Gabe Nard kept FSU within three runs with a clean frame.
The Red Storm stuck with Frederick, who posted a three-run lead with one out. Fisher then sent his second homer over the right field fence for a two-run shot, bringing FSU within one run.
