First Winter Episode Predicted for Haute-Garonne: Snowfall Expected at Low Altitudes

Météo France has issued a forecast indicating that the first winter episode is set to hit Haute-Garonne, bringing snowfall at very low altitudes. According to Météo France’s prediction, this event will unfold between November 19 and 21, 2025.

The temperatures in Toulouse are expected to drop significantly over the coming days, with a strong cold front moving through the region. This cold snap is anticipated to start on Wednesday night, November 19, 2025, bringing down nighttime temperatures close to or even below freezing points in Toulouse and colder conditions in mountainous areas.

“We are experiencing a significant drop in temperatures that heralds the first winter episode,” confirms Jean-Michel Vayssettes, an engineer at Météo France. He elaborates that “temperatures will hover around 0°C or even slightly below zero on Toulouse, while mountainous regions could see temperatures as low as -3°C to -7°C depending on altitude.”

First Snowfall in the Pyrenees Foothills: Potential Impact on Transportation

The snow is expected to begin falling in the Pyrenees foothills starting Thursday, November 20, 2025. Météo France notes that this could pose challenges for traffic along Autoroute A64.

“Snowfall will likely start at an altitude of 800 meters and accumulate up to 10 cm in certain areas above 1,500 meters,” explains Vayssettes. This means that while there may be some light snowfall in the Toulouse area, it is unlikely to result in significant accumulations or disruptions on the ground.

Cold Snap Continues into Friday, with Snow Accumulation Expected Above 800 Meters

As night falls from Thursday to Friday, temperatures will continue to drop sharply. “By the morning of Friday, November 21, 2025, we can expect temperatures to have dropped to -1°C in Toulouse and even lower in rural areas,” says Vayssettes.

In mountainous regions, snow accumulation is more likely. “We could see up to a few centimeters of snow above 800 meters, with the possibility of up to 5-10 cm at higher altitudes,” he adds. However, these conditions are not expected to impact the lower elevations in Haute-Garonne significantly.

Improving Weather Conditions by Friday

Météo France predicts that from Friday onward, weather conditions will gradually improve. “A new wave of mild weather is expected to arrive towards the weekend,” says Vayssettes. This shift should provide some respite from the cold and potentially bring warmer temperatures.

Residents in Haute-Garonne are advised to prepare for these colder days ahead. With accurate predictions, they can better plan their activities and ensure safety during this first winter episode of 2025.
