Crunchyroll’s Chainsaw Man: A Live-Action Adaptation Returns for a Bloodier Stage
Live-action adaptations of beloved anime series are becoming more frequent, especially as studios seek new avenues to capitalize on established franchises. One such franchise that is set to return to the stage is Chainsaw Man. The bloodiest anime from Crunchyroll has announced a live-action adaptation focusing on the “Reze Arc,” which had significant traction among fans in 2025.
The Return of Chainsaw Man
Earlier this year, Chainsaw Man: The Movie: The Reze Arc brought Studio MAPPA back into the spotlight. Following its runaway success, Shueisha has decided to adapt Tatsuki Fujimoto’s world once again for live performance. This new stage adaptation, titled “Chainsaw Man The Stage,” is set to debut in Tokyo and Kyoto next summer.
A Familiar Face
Naotake Tsuchiya, who portrayed Denji in the first stage performance, has expressed his excitement about returning to the role. In a statement following the major reveal, Tsuchiya stated, “First of all, I am truly happy to be able to bring ‘Chainsaw Man’ The Stage to everyone again, and to continue performing in the sequel. The ‘Reze Arc,’ which has received a great response from the public, is being adapted for the stage, and just imagining it will allow me to once again experience the unique stage expression and excitement I felt in the first installment, making me want to perform it as soon as possible!”
Pushing the Limits
The “Reze Arc” of Chainsaw Man is known for its intense battles and dramatic encounters. Tsuchiya’s return alongside other original cast members promises a performance that will take fans back to the thrilling moments of the movie. The entire company, according to Tsuchiya, will continue to work hard so that it can reach as many people as possible.
As for the future of Chainsaw Man’s anime adaptation, there remain numerous storylines from the source material left unadapted.
Whether this new stage performance signals a return to television or the start of a new movie series is yet to be seen. Considering how long the next slated arc from the manga would take to adapt in the anime format, it’s possible that MAPPA might choose to return to television for now.
