Evans’ performance was particularly significant as he bettered the previous best figures of Heath Streak, who had taken 5/27 against the West Indies in Port of Spain back in 1996. The collapse of Afghanistan’s innings from 77/2 to 127 all out was triggered primarily by Evans’ and Blessing Muzarabani’s bowling efforts. Despite the early resistance from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (37) and Abdul Malik (30), who added 65 runs for the second wicket, the Afghan team could not sustain their momentum.
Evans captured five of the last seven Afghan wickets while conceding just 22 runs off 57 deliveries. This performance was a significant improvement from his previous best of 4/31 in Tests.
