Baylor’s David Gabriel Georges: A Rare Talent at 17

The 2023 season for Baylor School running back David Gabriel Georges was nothing short of a phenomenon. At just 17 years old, Georges has already made his mark on the high school football landscape, earning several prestigious recognitions that place him among the nation’s top prospects.

This year alone, Georges earned the Tennessee prep player of the year by Rivals.com and a second straight all-state recognition for Division II-AAA by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association. His achievements culminated in an even greater honor: being named national player of the year by MaxPreps.com on Tuesday.

Adoma at Its Best

Georges’ performance is a testament to his exceptional skills and work ethic. The 6-foot, 205-pound running back averaged nearly 11 yards per carry during the season, amassing an impressive 1,756 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns. These numbers propelled Baylor School to its second DII-AAA BlueCross Bowl state championship in the past four seasons.

“We’re really proud of David,” said Erik Kimrey, Baylor coach. “We feel like he deserves it because he’s a special talent, and I’ve said that since the first time I saw him.

I don’t think he has any weaknesses. His God-given ability – speed, power elusiveness – he can do it all. He can run around you, through you or by you.”

A Dominant Season

The standout performance of the 2023 season included some memorable moments that garnered national attention. In a key game against Georgia’s Rabun Gap on August 29th, Georges ran for 223 yards and four scores, including the decisive fourth-down touchdown to seal the victory.

Georges’ impact was also felt in his rivalry with McCallie, where he ran for an astounding 435 yards and seven touchdowns across two games. In a semifinal rematch at Baylor on November 21st, he played one of the best individual performances in high school football history, accounting for 67 of his team’s 80 yards on the game-winning drive as the Red Raiders rallied past Brentwood Academy 28-24.

A Generational Talent

According to Coach Kimrey, Georges is a “true professional already at 17.” He goes beyond just being a standout player; he’s a generational talent who commands awe from those who watch him play. “Not only is he the best I’ve ever coached,” said Kimrey, “he’s the best I’ve ever seen. The appropriate response to watching him play is to just be in awe of it.”

Georges’ achievements also place him among a select group of non-seniors to have been named MaxPreps national player of the year, with only Riley Dodge (2006), Kyler Murray (2013), and J.T. Daniels (2017) having earned this honor before him.

Future Prospects

Rated as the nation’s No. 2 running back prospect in the Class of 2027, Georges has offers from more than 30 college programs and is set to make official recruiting visits to Ohio State (May 29), Tennessee (June 5), Auburn (June 12), and Georgia (June 19). His journey to national recognition began with a local award in the state title game, where he finished with 211 offensive yards and two touchdowns on 31 touches, including accounting for 67 of his team’s 80 yards.

The path forward for this young talent is bright. Whether it’s leading Baylor to more championships or breaking records at the college level, David Gabriel Georges’ future in football looks promising indeed.
