Agentic Coding Comes to Slack as Anthropic Launches Claude Code Integration

Key Highlights

  • Anthropic launches Claude Code integration with Slack in beta mode.
  • Claude Code is an agentic coding tool that helps developers turn ideas into working software.
  • The feature allows developers to delegate coding tasks directly inside Slack, maintaining awareness of the entire codebase and taking actions autonomously.
  • Anthropic’s move aims to bring coding assistance closer to where developers work and converse.

New AI Tool for Developers: Anthropic’s Claude Code in Beta on Slack

Anthropic, the company behind popular AI chatbot Claude, has announced a significant update to its suite of tools. The tech giant is now integrating Claude Code, an advanced coding tool designed to assist developers by automating routine tasks and enhancing productivity.

Integrating Claude Code with Slack: A Game-Changer for Developers

The integration, which is currently in beta testing on the popular workplace messaging platform Slack, marks a pivotal step towards making software development more efficient. By directly plugging into developers’ projects and maintaining awareness of the entire codebase, Claude Code can perform actions such as creating files, refactoring code, running tests, and iterating autonomously.

According to Anthropic CEO Evan Leibowitz, this move is part of a broader strategy to make AI more accessible and beneficial for professionals. “Claude Code is designed to behave less like a chatbot and more like a junior engineer,” he noted in an exclusive interview with SiliconANGLE Media’s theCUBE.

Contextual Conversations: Bringing Coding Assistance Closer

The integration leverages the fact that much of the critical context around software engineering exists in chat, where developers discuss problems and ideas together. Now, developers can tag Claude Code during these conversations to have it get to work without needing to jump out of the thread.

For example, a developer might write “@Claude fix the failing payment tests” in a channel, and Claude Code will pick up the task, investigate the error, and propose a patch. The app lives within Slack, allowing AI assistants to gather context from conversations to better understand developer needs.

Widespread Adoption: Slack’s Dominance in Enterprise Software

The integration is particularly significant given the widespread adoption of Slack among tech companies. According to recent reports, Salesforce Inc.’s Slack surpassed 42 million daily active users globally in early 2025. The software industry heavily relies on it, with 2,118 companies actively using the platform followed closely by information technology and services with 1,629 companies.

Around 60% of startups pay for Slack, compared with only 12% paying for Microsoft Corp.’s Teams.

This capability expands on the existing Claude app for Slack, which can now relay tasks to Claude Code on the web. Mentioning @Claude in a message will have the AI assistant review the message to determine if it’s a coding task and route it appropriately.

Future Implications: Enhancing Developer Productivity

The introduction of Claude Code into Slack represents a significant step towards enhancing developer productivity through automation. As developers continue to rely on tools that can handle routine tasks, the integration aims to streamline their workflow and allow them to focus more on high-level design and innovation.

Anthropic is confident that this move will not only improve individual developer efficiency but also foster better collaboration within teams. “The goal is to make software development a smoother process by integrating AI tools where developers naturally work,” added Leibowitz during the interview.

With the feature in beta mode, Anthropic invites feedback from early adopters and looks forward to further refining the tool based on user input. As the technology evolves, it promises to transform how developers approach coding tasks, making their work more efficient and enjoyable.
