Nearly Half a Million Attendees Set to Jam Las Vegas Roads
A half-million people are gearing up for this weekend’s Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) in Las Vegas, and they’re not alone. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is bracing for one of the biggest road challenges in recent memory.
Preparation Begins Early
Starting Tuesday night, crews will be out on I-15, conducting temporary shoulder restriping between the Tropical Parkway and Speedway Boulevard off-ramps. This isn’t just any ordinary strip; it’s a strategic move to ensure smooth traffic flow when the crowds hit.
Traffic Restrictions and Patterns
Wednesday night into Thursday morning will see significant changes, with the I-15 southbound off-ramp to Sahara Avenue eastbound closed. The Sahara south bridge near Las Vegas Boulevard is also getting a closure for part of the EDC World Parade. This parade, scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., will make its way around the North Strip, passing by several famous landmarks.
Driver Advisory
NDOT recommends drivers plan their routes ahead and allow extra travel time. The heaviest delays are expected between 2 p.m. and 6 a.m. each day of EDC. For those who cannot avoid the area, NDOT suggests using real-time traffic updates to adjust plans on the fly.
Long-Term Impacts
The event is set from Friday through Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Between Exit 52 and Exit 58 (Apex) will experience altered patterns throughout these days, with additional impacts on Las Vegas Boulevard between Nellis Boulevard and Apex and Craig Road between Nellis and Las Vegas Boulevard.
So, you might think this is new, but it’s not. EDC has been a regular fixture in the Las Vegas calendar for years, and each year brings its own set of challenges. For now, just remember: If your trip involves I-15 during these days, prepare to be patient or find an alternative route.
