The Queer Eye Saga Continues: Karamo Brown Opens Up

Karamo Brown, star of the hit Netflix show Queer Eye, has recently opened up about his decision to skip press appearances for the final season. He did so at the last minute and provided a statement emphasizing mental health.

Brown’s Struggles with Toxicity on Set

“If I stay quiet right now and pretend I’m sick or something, whose peace am I protecting?” Brown asks rhetorically. His account of dealing with toxicity from co-stars and executives is stark. “Everyone would just say, ‘Well, that’s just that person,’ instead of saying, ‘This behavior does not fly in a professional environment.’”

Brown claims his relationships with original stars like Bobby Berk were particularly tense, despite his initial accusation of sexual harassment against him being unfounded.

Relapse and Recovery

In 2018, during the show’s third season, Brown relapsed after a decade of sobriety. “A drink would lead to weed, cocaine, pills,” he explains candidly. “I wasn’t coping right, but I pretended like I was.” He is now sober again, stating, “I’ve not had a single drink, cocktail — nothing.”

Co-stars Dispute Brown’s Claims

ITV America and Scout Productions, the production company behind Queer Eye, strongly disagree with Brown’s characterization. They affirm that any issues were taken seriously and addressed appropriately throughout the series’ run.

The statement reads, “We remain incredibly proud of Queer Eye’s lasting impact and the community the series helped build over more than 20 years.” However, Brown maintains his stance, hoping for a resolution with co-stars. “I think we all deserve a bit of grace,” he says, reflecting on their shared past.
