According to an internal investigation by Kenvue Brands, LLC, which produces the Neutrogena wipes, some batches tested positive for Pluralibacter gergoviae bacteria. This bacterium is resistant to preservatives commonly used in beauty products and can pose a risk, especially to individuals with weakened immune systems.
The symptoms of infection from this bacteria can range from mild to severe, including respiratory distress, urinary tract infections, eye infections, and sepsis. The FDA has classified the recall as Class II, indicating that while it is not immediately life-threatening or irreversible, it could potentially cause serious health issues if used.
